During the occupation in 1944, filmmaker Otto Baumann is murdered. Detective Helge Nielsen stubbornly investigates the case — even as he's hunted by the Germans.

September 1944: In occupied, war-weary and entertainment-crazed Denmark, times are good for enterprising people like filmmaker Otto Baumann. However, he is secretly surrounded by hatred and jealousy.

Baumann is shot dead late one night. On their way to interrogate the employees of Fønix Film, detectives Nielsen and Andersen witness another murder seemingly connected to Baumann.

After the occupation forces have put the Danish police out of action, Nielsen continues his investigation of the Baumann case in secret, thus putting both himself and his loved ones in danger. And the more he finds out, the more impossible the solution seems.
