In 1997. a boy goes missing from an informal settlement in PE. When a suspect's alibi doesn't check out, he's brought in for questioning, where he confesses to more than just the boy's murder.

With a fragmented backstory mainly based on first-hand account, we learn about the troubled past of Stewert "Boetie Boer" Wilken and the abuse he suffered as a young child.

South Africa is amid a nationwide killing spree with multiple mass murderers on the loose. Stewart remains anonymous, but his methods evolve into darker, more depraved acts of violence.

Stewart's relationship with his first wife is deeply troubled. When he learns of their daughter being molested by her new husband, the thought drives him mad.

Twenty-five years later, the possibility of parole brings Stewart's now grown children back into his life, asking pertinent questions about their past and what hope there is for a future.
